Most important in the second edition is the scrutiny of the works of Professor John Joseph, in addition to those of J.M. Fiey.

The first edition of this book was strictly analytical, focusing on demonstrating the descent of Modern Assyrians from the Ancient Assyrians. It did not provide a history of Assyria, which, many of the readers were expecting to find.

Now, the appendix of the second edition contains a brief history of Assyria, followed by its pre-history and engineering achievements. A tabulated chronology of peoples, leaders, and their contributions from before 3500 BC to 330 BC is included. This is followed by a list of the kings of Assyria, with dates and a brief history, all in tabulated form. The engineering history of Assyria and its achievements is a rare topic, not found in every book. Also in tabulated form is a list of the last kings of Assyria, followed by foreign domination. Two maps are included for reference and orientation.

Assyrian cook Book

Assyrian Cook Book

If you are Assyrian, you already know how difficult it is to get a recipe of your favorite dish from your mother. There are usually no written recipes to speak of. As we lose our treasured older generation, we lose a wealth of knowledge. And as a result, the dishes we grew up enjoying will only live on in our memories.

Many Assyrians, myself included, have married outside of our nationality. Instead of cooking our traditional food, we settle for pizza or macaroni and cheese. My aim is to preserve one aspect of our culture, our wonderful food!

The Crimsaon Field

By Rosie Malek-Yonan

Few people within the mainstream American culture even know that Assyrian people still exist. Fewer know anything about the Genocide perpetrated against them during world War One. Almost three million Assyrian, Armenian and Greek Christians were murdered by the Islamic Ottoman Turks because of their ethnicity and faith.

The Crimson Field assigns faces and names to the victims of this dreadful chapter of history. It captures the plight of an Assyrian girl, helplessly caught up in the turmoil of her surroundings.

Malek-Yonan's work shines a terrible light on an overlooked study of Islamic violence during the 20th Century. It is a must read for any person interested in learning about the personal cost of Islamic Jihad.

Assyrians: From Bedr Khan
to Saddam Hussein

Fred Aprim

Throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Turks and Kurds committed numerous massacres against the Assyrian Christians in their secluded mountains of northern Mesopotamia and in Tur Abdin region in modern southeastern Turkey. As the Ottoman Empire entered WWI, it declared jihad (holy war) against its Christian subjects. Backed by Kurds, the Turkish army invaded northwestern Persia (Iran) and committed further atrocities against the Assyrian refugees who fled the Ottoman territories and against Assyrians of Persia as well. The jihad transformed into an ethnic genocide against the Assyrians that was perpetrated by the Turkish state and Kurdish warlords. This genocide continues to this very day due to the policies of the Kurds in northern Iraq, southeastern Turkey, and northeastern Syria. The Assyrians lost two-thirds of their population and most of their homelands in northern Mesopotamia during WWI alone.
