Kurdish Democratic Party Using Ishtar to undermine Ashur May 27, 06
People who have some knowledge of the ancient history know that Ishtar was the Assyrian and Babylonian goddess of love. Ashur or Atture is the name of Northern Iraq not only in ancient documents also in the Syriac manuscripts during all centuries of Christianity and presently the name of an Assyrian TV program.
In an effort to Kurdify the Assyrians, the Kurdish government in northern Iraq has established a propaganda satellite T.V. program in the Syriac language fronted by a member of the Chaldean church known as George Mansour in an effort to divide various Assyrian factions against each other and promote Kurdish dominance over social, political and economic aspects of their life.
This is one of many tactics used by the Kurdish Democratic Party to undermine the Assyrian identity of the christians of Iraq and deny them their rights and equal protection under the law. If the US intentions were to bring democracy to Iraq. Kurdish Democratic Party and its leaders are determent to make a mockery of it by opressing the Christians of northern Iraq and underminig their historic ethnic idenity which should be considered as a form of ethnic cleanisng, as if years of persecution by Saddam and attacks gainst them by the Islamic fanatics were not enough.
The Barzani militia is using the same ethnic cleansing tactics which Saddam used to Arabize the Kurds and Assyrians by forcing them to renounce their identity and declare themselves Arabs. Like the Turks who denied the existence of the Kurds in their country by calling them 'mountain Turks' Kurds often refer to the Christians of Iraq as 'Christians of Kurdistan'. Recently Assyrians were astonished that when Talabani (a Kurdish leader) was appointed as vice president of Iraq in his acceptance speech he did not acknowledge Assyrians as a minoritiy in Iraq. While Kurds decried Saddam's and Turk's attempts to wipe out their identity they have no problem using the same tactics against the Christian Assyrians by undermining their naitnoal and historic identity. Evidentally Barzani and his militia want to rewrite history and pretend that northern Iraq has always been known as Kurdistan. This is a fallacy which will be addressed in another article.Following was translated from Arabic by Fred Aprim:

Mr. Serwan Atrooshi A fair minded Kurdish writer in an article titled:
"Between Ashur and Ishtar, Justice and Standard were Lost," decries the oppression of the Assyrians (including Chaldeans and Syriacs) by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) A militia and political organization headed by Masoud Barzani President of the Kurdish government in northern Iraq.
Atrooshi writes; "the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) imposes its will on the Christians community by trespassing on their lands, villages, and properties by bribing some community members to do its dirty work, also using its propaganda media known as Ishtar TV in an effort to divide and rule and oppress the Christians of northern Iraq."
Barazani showers few mediocre individuals among the Kurds, Chaldeans, Assyrians, Turkomen, and Yezidis with millions of dollars to give an appearance of treating none Kurds generosity and democratically, at the same time , he and the KDP use their secret police organization to eliminate any opposition, just as they did with Jawhar Namiq who was the (KDP founder and head of the parliament for ten years), Abu Naseer (Communist leader), and Renas, Ra'oof Aakray, Hussein Kwestani (PUK leader), and Francis Shabo (a leader of the Assyrian Democratic Movement).
To defy the will of the people and dominate every aspect of their life The KDP has appointed few individuals as the leaders of the community to serve as paid servants of the Kurds and has refused to work with the elected Assyrian leadership. The appointed, so-called leaders, are subject and obedient to Nijervan Barazani who controls everything including the funds donated from the US and other countries of the west for the rebuilding Iraq. He shares none of it with the elected leadership to spend on projects which will improve the Christia community life. By controling the money and the leadership the intentions of Barazani are to impose Kurdish hegemony over the smaller and weaker Assyrians community.
To nullify criticism from the west, after 1996, the KDP changed its old tactics of assassination and murder of the opposition figures instead it adopted a new policy orchestrated by Fadhil Mirani, KDP Political Bureau in charge. This is the same Mirani who worked earlier with the secret police apparatus of Saddam Hussein regime and used criminals such as Qadir Qajagh, Wahid Kofli, and others to get rid of patriotic individuals who disagreed with Barazani. The financial relationship and oil deals of Nigervan Barazani and Saddam Hussein regime are well known, especially with the Asia Company that specialized in oil trafficking to benefit Udai Saddam Hussein and Nijervan Barazani.
Atrooshi asserts that the equipment used to broadcast the Ishtar TV were originally purchased to strengthen the signals of Hreem TV (a TV station for the Ministry of Culture in KRG); however, when the said ministry became under the control of the Talabani and the PUK in the new KRG, Nijervan Barazani decided to open Ishtar TV (registered under a Kurd's name) so that his Christian servants such as Sargis Aghajan can use it to sing the praises of Barzanis and polish any good side of the KDP while ignoring to address the reported assassinations of Abu Naseer, Renas, Ra'oof Aakray, Hussein Kwestani, Francis Shabo and many others while their killers are free in Arbil and Dohuk protected by Nigervan Barazani.
The Ishtar TV refuses to address the suffering of the Chaldean, Assyrian, Armenian and even Kurdish farmers whose lands were confiscated. Why Ishtar TV has nothing to say about the occupied villages in Nahla, including Dafriya, Chen Sini, Karbish and others?
